Biography
Lutz Koppetsch studied saxophone in classical music with Arno Bornkamp at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In Paris, he continued his education at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique with Claude Delangle and deepened the technical agility and clarity of the French school in the class of Vincent David at the Conservatoire National de Region in Versailles.
Lutz Koppetsch has won prizes at prestigious international competitions, including the ARD International Music Competition Munich, and has also received scholarships from the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb and the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
Koppetsch is a sought after guest e.g. with the Ensemble Modern and the WDR and HR Symphony Orchestras. As a member of a wide variety of ensembles and chamber music formations, he moves between all styles of classical music and has released numerous recordings, some of which have received awards such as the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik or the ECHO Klassik.
As a soloist, Lutz Koppetsch is characterized by musical flexibility and stylistic openness. With music ranging from Alexander Glazunov to Philipp Glass and Luciano Berio to klezmer, he has performed with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra and the BR Radio Orchestra, among others. In 2023 he premiered the saxophone concerto CIRCLE AND TANGENT by SJ Hanke in the Kölner Philharmonie with the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Mariano Chiacchiarini.
Lutz Koppetsch is Professor of Saxophone at the University of Music Würzburg.
Lutz Koppetsch & La piccola banda
Together with his new ensemble "La piccola banda", Lutz Koppetsch features a crossover program between classical and folk music in the fascinating combination of a solo saxophone with violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, harp and accordeon.
The first CD, released with Speltral Records, is titled "Far Away". The second album (in preparation) is dedicated to the magic of the night.
